Top Racing Movies of All Time

Every winter while you're hibernating during cold weather, it's imperative to hone up on racing movies to prepare yourself for the impending race season and prevent withdrawal.

What? You don't believe us? It's a fact. It's also doctor recommended, so tell that to your wife after she rolls her eyes when you watch "Days of Thunder" for the millionth time.

If you don't prep by rewatching these movies, then when someone tells you, "I'm droppin' the hammer!" you might think they're going to in fact drop a real hammer and not realize they're quoting "Days of Thunder." If you watched that movie a million times over the winter like you were supposed to, you'd know that quote by heart and probably follow up with another one. ("HIT THE PACE CAR!" "What for?" "Because you've hit every other goddamned thing out there, I want you to be perfect.")

Anyway.

Trust us when we say that'd be a very embarrassing situation if you didn't know the quote. To help you study up on the best racing movies, we here at Crist Racing have compiled a list of the Top Racing Movies of All Time. They're listed in no particular order because, well, they're all awesome. In fact, after you watch all of them, you'll be able to finish this line:  "I'm the best there is, plain and simple. I mean, I wake up in the morning and ____________."

Six Pack

Six PackAh, an oldie but a goodie! To this day, this movie is still one of Dustin's favorites and whenever it's on he will pretty much stop whatever he is doing to watch it. You could probably say that about any member of the Brew Crew, actually. This one is a favorite because not only is it about racing, but the pit crew is composed of kids, which is pretty much like every kid's dream.

Gone in 60 Seconds

Gone in 60 Seconds

While this movie is more about car stealing and not car racing, the eye candy in it alone is worth watching. And, no, I'm not talking about Angelina Jolie, but the 1967 Shelby Mustang GT 500, Eleonor. Oh, Eleanor.

Cars

Cars (Full Screen Edition)

What? Cartoons are cool, too. This movie could be considered Racing Movie: 101 for the younger fans. A gateway movie that will lead them to more serious ones, so to speak. And in the end, it has a moral that can speak to every driver: don't get too full of yourself because there's always someone else ready to take your place.

3: DALE EARNHARDT STORY
Let's begin this one with a moment of silence for The Intimidator.

Amen.

This is the biographical story of NASCAR racing legend Dale Earnhardt. It follows his life from childhood until his tragic death in turn four at the Daytona 500 in 2001. Regardless of if you were a fan or if you didn't like his aggressive driving style, this is a great story about a man who came from nothing to be one of history's most successful stock car drivers.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Talladega Nights - The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
Shake and bake! If only for the humor and quotes alone, this is one at the top of our list. Yeah, that just happened! Ricky Bobby would probably be pretty upset his movie isn't our number one pick, though, because like he says...if you ain't first, you're last!

The Fast and the Furious

The Fast and the Furious"I live my life a quarter mile at a time." This movie, while mostly about imports and street racing, is worth watching just for the showstopper in the last scene: the black 1970 Dodge Charger R/T with a 528ci supercharged Hemi. Although, it does sort of break our hearts when it gets crashed and that act should probably be a crime. However, if you watch after the credits, you'll see the main character, Dom, driving another muscle classic, the 1970 Chevelle SS.

Random fact: Dustin named his boxer, Dom, after Vin Diesel's character in this movie. True story.

Days of Thunder

Days of Thunder
This movie is number one with us because it combines so many great things: stock car racing, Daytona, and Tom Cruise. Okay, just kidding about that last one. It's also sort of like the Race Car Driver's Bible when it comes to quotes. You almost can't attend a race without someone yelling, "Rubbin' is racin'!" Granted, that someone is usually Dustin's mom Debbie after she's had a few Miller Lites, but still...it's a classic.

Which movie is your favorite? Let us know by voting in the poll on the left side of the page.
